Small weddings, and quiet ones

Naiko has hosted a number of very intimate weddings, more proposals than it has kept count of, and a long run of anniversaries and milestone birthdays. It is not a venue, which is precisely why people choose it.

Read this before you set a date

Naiko limits the number of guests who can attend a ceremony or celebration, at both properties. There is no marquee, no dance floor and no plan to build one. What there is: a cliff, an ocean, a building that photographs beautifully in any light, and complete privacy.

So the sequence matters. Talk to the manager before you book the stay, and certainly before you tell anyone a date. Functions, events and wedding activities all need approval in advance — if you skip that step, charges apply and the day gets harder than it needed to be.

Guests may also have up to four adult visitors during the day with prior approval, which covers a celebrant, a photographer and two witnesses more comfortably than most people expect.

Elopements

Two people, a celebrant, and nobody's opinion about the seating plan.

The whole property is yours for the night, so the ceremony can happen wherever the light is best — the front deck, the cliff edge, or on the beach at the bottom of the track. Two-night minimum, which most couples extend.

Proposals

The most common reason people book one bedroom rather than three.

Sunset on the deck, the Futuro lit below, and no chance of a stranger walking through the shot. Tell us in advance and we will make sure nothing is scheduled that afternoon.

When the guest list will not fit into six beds.

The Villa takes ten across four bedrooms with a great room built for everyone being in it at once. A private chef can cook in the kitchen, or Whalers is a five-minute walk down the hill.

Retreats & wellness weekends

Naiko has hosted curated retreats run by outside operators.

Exclusive use, a kitchen that can feed a group properly, yoga on the deck, and treatment rooms — including, at Deep Creek, the Futuro. If you run retreats and are looking at the Fleurieu, start with an enquiry rather than a booking.

Both properties

Exclusive use is the whole proposition

Nobody arrives at eleven to service the room next door. There is no reception, no other guests and no schedule but yours — which is the reason retreat operators keep coming back to both houses.

Plotted from real coordinates, so the bearings and the distances between points hold. The coastline is deliberately not drawn — approximating the shape of a real place and presenting it as a map is how maps start lying.

Two houses, one coastline

They are close enough that people do both in a week and far enough apart that they are not the same holiday. The Retreat is at the end of the peninsula with the last six kilometres unsealed. The Villa is ten minutes above Victor Harbor, with a bakery, a pub and a beach in walking distance of the car.
